Live Waxworms are the larvae of the Greater Wax Moth. They are creamy white and have a soft body which is easily digestible.
These nutritious waxworms are high in protein and fat which means they are very beneficial for garden birds, and are much larger than mealworms. As well as being hardy and odour-free, they will keep for 3 or 4 weeks at room temperature in a low humidity area.
Your waxworms will arrive in a lidded, breathable tub which allows you to tip out a few at a time - without having to touch them if you are squeamish! With a little care they will last for weeks.
As waxworms have entered a stage in their life cycle where they no longer consume food, they are living off the fat supplies in their bodies which means you may see them growing smaller the longer you keep them. if you spot any black waxworms then they are dead waxworms and must be removed from the container.
Live foods are shipped separately to the rest of your order as they come directly from the supplier.
