- Fortunately, we are rarely troubled by squirrels, but pigeons gobble up all the seed, leaving none for the smaller birds. These feeders make it difficult for the pigeons to get at the seed and most now seem to have given up trying.

A note on Juvenile Squirrels and Juvenile Large Birds
This feeder can only deter against adult squirrels and adult large birds. Juvenile squirrels are extremely agile with less fur than their adult counterparts, this means they are able to access small spaces, and could potentially get through the bars on this feeder. Squirrels are born in March and April, and again in June and July, so you may find this a problem during the spring and summer months.
Young large birds may also find their way to the food, particularly young magpies and crows. In addition to this some birds with longer beaks such as a woodpecker may be able to reach the food. We cannot guarantee that this feeder will resist access/damage from these young squirrels and birds, but it will deter the majority of the larger fully grown species.
If these juvenile squirrels cause issue, then we recommend trying a sprinkling of chilli flakes in the bird feed, squirrels really hate chilli. However, birds are not at all bothered by chilli, so this is unlikely to deter the juvenile large birds.
