The beautiful, handcrafted Tiggie Hedgehog House is a striking, high-quality hog house with a beautiful natural oak color scheme. Crafted with care in the UK by people with autism and learning disabilities, the house is made from sustainably sourced timber with the hedgehog's wellbeing in mind.
This hedgehog box design is proudly used by the Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue centre, a testament to its quality. The internal walls offer hedgehogs distinct areas for eating and sleeping, an effective design feature.
To use the Tiggie Hog House, place it in a sheltered, quiet garden spot surrounded by undergrowth and protected from wind and rain. Leave dry leaves or straw at the entrance for the hedgehogs to use as bedding inside. The waterproof roof and raised feet keep the interior dry, while the felt lining on the roof and base provide extra waterproofing.
The Spike comes with fixing instructions and some minimal assembly is required, it's really important that these instructions are followed to ensure that the house is safe and secure.
Clean the box in early spring and autumn, after confirming hedgehogs are not hibernating or breeding inside, and avoid disturbing them during hoglet season from May through early September.
Use hot soapy water and make sure that the box is well aired and dried after cleaning. If putting out food, leave it a couple of metres away as hedgehogs don’t tend to eat and sleep in the same place. Hedgehogs prefer specialist hedgehog food or tinned meaty dog or cat food and crushed cat or dog biscuits.
To prevent disease transmission, remove any uneaten food and wash feeding dishes daily outside with hot, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and secure the tunnel entrance before use. Avoid feeding hedgehogs bread, milk, or mealworms, as these foods can harm them. Since multiple hedgehogs may visit the feeding area, daily sanitation is essential.
